Greetings from Maryland

It's been two months (to the day!) since I moved to the East Coast and I thought - why not start a blog? I want to be able to share my new surroundings and experiences with all my friends and family (and essentially whoever else wants to read this)!

Where to start...

The town I now live in is Leonardtown, Maryland. Feel free to visit the town's website here if I don't do it justice, because this town is actually pretty historic. It's a small town of just under 3,000 people located on Brenton Bay just off the Potomac River. And not too far East is the Patuxent River. I live on a peninsula, guys! For visual learners.... >>>>>

Claim to fame: The British in the war of 1812 came in through Brenton Bay and invaded Leonardtown.

Living in this small town is not much different than the small town of Gardner, Illinois that I grew up in -- there's even a historic jail! Relatively not far from major cities (DC, Baltimore, Annapolis) - just about an hour to hour and a half drive North.
LOTS of farms in the surrounding area (but many owned and farmed by Amish people - completely new to me!). There are no major grocery stores, fast food, or shopping (that's not antiques) within walking distance, but is only a short drive away. It's got a cute town(e) square though! I'll post some picture below from my many daily walks with the dog.
Historic sign (you'll find them all over MD)
explaining a little about the founding of
the town!
Lots of history around here!

a 10 min walk from the apartment)

I probably look like a tourist as much as I take pictures around town. Oh, well. Not pictured are some cute shops on the side streets (second hand bookstore, coffee shop/late night speak easy, furniture, kitchen supplies, pet stores, antiques), and quite a few one-of-a-kind restaurants.

It has been an adjustment, to say the least, moving back into a small, rural community after being a BIG TIME CITY GAL the past 5 years. But, I like it!

I think this is a good start. From here I hope to continue to write about all the fun, new things I've been able to experience thus far in the two months I've been here - and continue to experience (ie- hoping to make it to the St. Mary's County Fair tomorrow!). As well as writing/typing about the change of pace, life style, and scenery out here. Until then, hope you all enjoy this post!

Also - bear with me on the layout of this blog, all new to me!

- Julie
